If you are searching for private soccer training in Tampa, you are usually trying to solve one specific problem: your player is good, but they are not getting enough touches, enough feedback, or enough confidence in the ninety minutes a week their club team gives them.
I coach 1-on-1 and small-group sessions out of South Tampa, based on Davis Islands, for players ages 9 to 14.
This guide covers what private soccer training actually involves, where sessions happen across South Tampa and the wider Tampa Bay area, and how to tell whether your player is ready for it.
Private soccer training is not a shrunken team practice. A club session has to serve fifteen or twenty players at once. A private session serves one.
That changes what is possible. In a single focused hour, a player can get more purposeful touches on the ball than in a full week of team training.
A typical session covers:
Every session is built around what that player struggled with in their last game, not a generic curriculum.
Most families looking for private soccer training in Tampa start with the same question: how far will we have to drive? It is a fair one. A forty-minute trip each way turns a one-hour session into a three-hour commitment, and that is usually what causes families to quit halfway through a season.
Marjorie Park Yacht Basin on Davis Islands is where most of my sessions run. It is home base, it is a short drive for nearly every South Tampa family, and the open green space and waterfront air make it a calm, low-traffic place to train.
If another location is easier for your family, sessions can be arranged at other nearby City of Tampa parks with open field space:
Tell me which one is closest to you and we will start there.
Players travel in regularly from Hyde Park, Palma Ceia and SoHo, and from Downtown Tampa and Channelside. If you are anywhere in South Tampa or the surrounding Tampa Bay area, you are close enough for a weekday evening session without reshaping your entire night.
Most of the players I work with are between 9 and 14, and they usually fall into one of a few groups:
You do not need to already be on an elite team. You need a player who wants to get better.
Private soccer training in Tampa usually takes one of two shapes, and the right one depends on what your player needs this season.
Every rep, every correction and every water break belongs to your player. This is the fastest way to fix a specific weakness, and the right choice when a player is preparing for tryouts or rebuilding confidence.
Small groups add competition. Players get realistic pressure, live 1v1 and 2v2 situations, and a teammate to measure themselves against, at a lower cost per session.
Many families alternate: one private session and one small group each week.
More is not automatically better, especially in season. A workable pattern for private soccer training looks like this:
Players still need rest days. Growth happens between sessions, not only during them.
Florida families using a Step Up for Students scholarship can often apply that funding toward private soccer training as a physical education or enrichment expense.
If you are already enrolled, it is worth checking your available balance before you assume private coaching is out of reach. I walk through how this works on the Step Up for Students page.
Around 9 is where it starts to pay off. Before that, most players benefit more from unstructured play and simply spending time with the ball.
It should not. Private training is there to support what the club is asking of your player, not to compete with it. If a club coach wants your player working on their left foot, that is what we work on.
Technique usually shows up in four to six sessions. Confidence in games often takes a little longer, because the player has to trust the new habit under pressure.
Cleats, shin guards, a ball and water. Florida heat is the main thing to plan around, so evening and shaded midday sessions are common.
Yes. Sessions are built around the individual player, not a fixed group.
If your player is 9 to 14 and you are anywhere from Davis Islands to Hyde Park, Palma Ceia, SoHo, Downtown Tampa or Channelside, private soccer training in Tampa is a short drive away.
